Exclusive Villas on the beautiful island of St Lucia |
Travillas has an exciting selection of St Lucia Villas for you to choose from. St Lucia is renowned for its striking mountain scenery and abundance of secluded coves and beaches. With a largely mountainous interior, the rivers flow to the coast forming luscious, fertile valleys which open onto beautiful, well-sheltered bays. Marigot Bay on the west coast is such a place, perfect for watching the sun set whilst sipping on a cocktail or cold beer. The most developed part of the island lies along the northwest coast around Castries, the capital of St Lucia. There are several marina developments flanked by long beaches a good example of which is Rodney Bay, the largest yachting port on the island.
However, for the true treasures of St Lucia one must travel southwards. Perhaps the most dramatic sight in the Eastern Caribbean, the Pitons are to be found rising sharply from the west coast shoreline, instantly recognisable as they round into view, a must see attraction for those who visit this stunning island. |
| What to see in St Lucia Although to be avoided when the cruise ships are visiting, Castries is known for the bustling 100-year-old outdoor market selling a huge variety of produce including fresh fruits and vegetables, spices, and a variety of local crafts. Just driving from town to town, particularly on coastal roads, you will pass through sprawling banana plantations and fishing villages. The roads wind in and out of luscious, fertile valleys and up over mountain passes that throw up spectacular sea views on every turn.
Apart from the magnificent Pitons, other attractions include near Soufrière, Sulphur Springs on the site of a huge volcano crater which collapsed some 40,000 years ago. Nearby, the Diamond Botanical Gardens planted with tropical flowers and trees, contain a waterfall and mineral baths built on natural hot springs in 1784 to make use of the therapeutic effects of the water!
| What to do in St Lucia It would be a shame not to take advantage of the beautifully clear Caribbean waters off the west coast and experience the coral reefs that are the pride of St Lucia. If you haven't been snorkeling or scuba diving before, this is a great place for your first time with a large variety of corals, sponges and fish to see. The most spectacular reefs are in Anse Chastanet, near Soufrière, an area designated as a marine park. There are also a couple of wreck dives which prove popular with visitors.
Other activities available include windsurfing, waterskiing, deep sea fishing, horseback riding, boat and helicopter tours, hiking and golf. There are two golf courses on the island, one being the Cap Estate public course on the north tip of the island. Many boat excursions are available during the day or evening and include a variety of activities along the way. Don't forget though, whether in a secluded cove or on a long sandy beach, the most popular activity on all the islands is to lie back and soak up that Caribbean sun.
